In David’s role as Commercial Director he brings to bear more than 33 years’ experience working in estates and facilities in the NHS and more latterly in commercial consultancy. David is responsible for all company contractual and commercial relationships, financial issues, and also oversees business development and bid management.
Before joining ETL, David spent 6 years as a senior director at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and before that he worked for 10 years at East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust leading their estates and facilities services as a Board Director. During his career David has worked across acute, primary care and mental health Trusts, as well as spending time in a consultancy role with NHS Estates. He is a chartered engineer and holds an MBA from Newcastle University.
Jonathan formally qualified as an Architect and after gaining a master’s degree in business (MBA) has had a distinguished international career in senior leadership roles for several significant international consultancies. Most recently Jonathan was a senior owner and Executive Director of Woods Bagot (Holdings) PTY Ltd, a Melbourne registered international Architectural practice with over 1000 professionals and 17 locations across the globe. Previously his roles have included Director of Special Projects for Ove Arup and Partners International and Equity Partner / Global Marketing Director at EC Harris, now part of Arcadis Group.
Jonathan is well respected internationally with over 25 years’ professional experience in Europe, Middle East, Asia and America, where he has completed numerous significant projects in the pharmaceutical, commercial, education, public and lifestyle sectors.
Over the last 6 years, Jonathan has helped dramatically improve the performance of both Woods Bagot’s European and Middle East businesses delivering profit from his 1st year of tenure. In 2016 Jonathan moved to Dubai to focus on the Middle East business which has delivered profit every year under his leadership. During this time Jonathan’s focus has been on developing a respectful corporate culture which has resulted in gender and ethnically balanced business in which over half the staff are female as is a third of the senior leadership.
In his formative design years, he was awarded three Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) prizes: The Allison Prize and the Bedford and the Aaron Scholarships.
Voted 2018 Middle East Architect Principal of the Year December 2018 and Elected no.9 in the 2019 Most influential Architects across the Middle East.
An architect by background, Tina is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading healthcare planners. Prior to joining ETL she was Partner Lead for Health Care Planning at EC Harris and a director of RKW Healthcare Strategists for 12 years. Bringing 20 years’ experience to the team, her expertise ranges from high level strategic clinical service reviews and investment strategies to developing detailed clinical and functional briefs across the full spectrum of healthcare services and sectors.
She has worked on an extensive range of complex capital schemes as part of the UK PFI and on International PPPs in the role of international advisor to Government health departments, hospital organisations, consortia and funders and she is also active on the international conference circuit.
Senior Management Team
Adam has more than 15 years in specialist consulting within his overall 20-year career in construction and asset management across multiple disciplines in both public and private sector. He has worked in the UK and overseas gaining cultural awareness and building communication skills. He has experience in Education, Healthcare, Science Research and Development, Housing, Cultural and Infrastructure sectors.
He is trained in Value Management, Risk Management and Programme Management and has been a continuous part of a PMO for a science programme since early 2014. Adam is Director of our Programme Management team and is currently engaged on two major science research and development campuses. An experienced facilitator, Adam frequently leads on risk and assurance reviews and is proficient at informing project recovery strategies.
Alexandra has a range of public and private sector experience and, over the past five years, has led the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the award-winning sustainability programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
This strategic programme saves over £3m per annum through efficiencies and strategic procurement, and Alexandra has been instrumental in establishing and managing the implementation of the Trust’s energy performance contract (EPC), which will save an additional £1m per annum.
Alexandra holds a Masters degree in Environmental Policy from Edinburgh University, she graduated with honours from Boston College in the USA, and has previously worked for an international hotel group as their lead environmental advisor for the UK.
Deirdre Foley Woods
Deirdre is an experienced health planner and clinically trained. With over 20 years international experience in hospital operations; including Executive Management positions in the private and public sector.
Deirdre has held strategic positions, notably for a US law firm before focusing on healthcare planning. Having worked on a wide-range of projects she has gained first-hand experience and overcome the challenges of working on major infrastructure projects and built lasting relationships in the sector.
As a Project director she has worked on strategic planning projects, business case development and was director of infrastructural and service development that included an Information Technology portfolio. Deirdre is a thought leader on Health Informatics and specialises in re-engineering and LEAN transformation.
Fiona leads the cost management team at ETL and has over twenty years of experience in the construction industry working in the UK and overseas. Fiona is a highly experienced cost advisor with strong value and risk management credentials and a focus on ensuring excellent project outcomes.
Having worked with both public and private client across all sectors but most recently the health and science sectors, Fiona has specialist experience in setting client specific commercial strategies, delivering healthcare estate and rationalisation strategies, and major healthcare capital programmes and projects of work, in particular the Guy’s Cancer Centre, a landmark building providing cutting edge cancer treatment and research delivered within budget.
John began his career in healthcare planning with a research post at London University and the Medical Architecture Research Unit (MARU), where he helped pioneer the earliest initiatives in evidence-based design in the UK. John went on to be a founding Director of RKW, the UK’s first specialist healthcare planning consultancy.
He has extensive experience in developing innovative models of care for acute, community and mental health services, where he has a particular interest and expertise. John is skilled in facilitating and securing support for strategic change and operating in politically contentious environments.
To date John has led on a wide range of healthcare projects in the UK and overseas, including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, New Children’s Hospital Dublin and Surrey Memorial Hospital in Vancouver.
With a background in both project and cost management, Mark started his career in main contracting, working in large multidisciplinary teams delivering major projects across the healthcare, life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors.
Mark joins ETL from Aecom where he was Head of Science & Innovation. For the last five years he was responsible for managing multiple teams across the UK & Europe delivering highly complex laboratory and research environments. Prior to its acquisition by Aecom, Mark was a Partner at Davis Langdon, leading their Project Management team in Oxford.
Mark is a graduate of Manchester University, a Fellow of the Association for Project Management and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
At ETL, Mark leads our Programme & Project Management team, and runs our first regional office, based in Oxfordshire.
Matt has over 20 years of project management experience in the construction industry, successfully leading and delivering largescale, complex schemes within the life sciences and innovation sectors. He has worked with prestigious higher education clients such as the University of Cambridge and more recently has helped to deliver large scale programmes of work for the MoD.
Matt joined ETL in 2018 from Aecom where he has spent 17 years, originally as a graduate and ultimately a Director leading the Project Management team in the Norwich, regional office.
He joined ETL as a Director in our Programme and Project Management team, with the strategic objective of developing our Anglia business unit, where we see huge potential.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Leicester and achieved a post graduate masters degree with distinction at the University of Reading. He is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Association of Project Managers and an NEC Accredited Project Manager.
As Director of Operations, Michelle’s role is identifying and responding to new business opportunities, bid and project management and commercial analysis. Michelle also delivers the strategic direction for the corporate services function within the organisation.
Michelle joined in 2013 to project manage the setup of ETL (Essentia Trading Ltd), she previously worked for both the NHS and the private sector in senior project management and senior account management positions.
Paul is an Accountant who has specialised in structured finance/PPP and related commercial aspects of development for 18 years. He has worked in the finance side of the NHS (acute and commissioning), in the UK defence industry and for ‘Big 4’ Accountancy Practices, as well as across built assets, networks and services under complex contractual structures.
Paul advised on numerous project financing and development schemes for Public and Private Sector parties, with over 100 different PPP mandates. The outputs from several of these commissions now form part of national and international standardised documentation. Furthermore, Paul has led Treasury and OGC compliant aspects of Public Sector business case development, advised on the sale/disposal of PPP assets (secondary market transactions), carried out due diligence on investment and funding cases, sales, financial modelling and on the revision and redevelopment of pre-existing contractual and statutory structures, to create improved financial and non-financial service outcomes for Clients.
Stephen heads up ETL’s Property Consultancy team with responsibility for managing and delivering large projects for a variety of both public and private healthcare operators and investors across London and the UK. Stephen specialises in providing clients with optimum solutions to their real estate challenges with a specific focus on maximising value and operational effectiveness. His expertise ranges from strategic estates reviews to development options, financial appraisals and valuation through to disposal and acquisitions.
Stephen is a graduate of both Reading and Cambridge Universities, a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a RICS Registered Valuer.
Stephen joined ETL in 2014 from an international property consultancy firm and has worked specifically in the healthcare sector since 2008.
Caroline Bault is Managing Partner at CounselRock Partners, a specialist hedge fund research and alternative investment consultancy. Between 2013 and 2011, Caroline was Managing Director for Global Business Development at the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association. Prior to joining the CAIA Association, she was a consultant to fund of hedge funds and family offices advising on manager selection, due diligence, and strategic and governance issues. Caroline has 30 years’ experience in financial services and capital markets ranging from equity research to investment banking and hedge fund allocation. She has worked in London, Paris, Frankfurt, and New York and her prior assignments include Director European Research at Commerzbank in London and Frankfurt and Executive Director at Goldman Sachs International. She received an MBA from the University of San Diego, California, in 1987 and a BSBA from the University of Hartford, Connecticut, in 1986. She is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and a member of the CFA Institute. She served as Chair of the Education Committee of 100 Women in Hedge Funds in London between 2009 and 2011 and currently co-chairs 100WHFs’ Women on Boards Initiative in Europe. She is currently a Non-Executive director of Aspirations Academies Trust and crowd funder and social impact investment platform Ethex as well as and a trustee of the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity and Further Education Trust for Leadership (FETL).
David has extensive experience in the public and private sectors, especially in health. David has held non-executive roles at a number of NHS Trusts, including Vice Chair at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and more recently joining the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS FT as Chair of The Audit committee. He was also the Chair of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn NHS FT and a senior director at NHS Improvement (formerly Monitor) leading the Transformation and Turnaround team. Before working so closely with the NHS David was an investment banker in London and Hong Kong for 17 years.
In his spare time he is actively involved in the community in South East London; also enjoys long distance running, recently having completed the 250 mile Cape Wrath Ultra marathon and is also a part-time concert pianist.
Paul is a chartered surveyor and certified mediator with over 35 years’ experience in built-asset consultancy and programme management working for public and private clients across EMEA..
Paul’s career includes executive leadership roles with Arcadis NV, EC Harris LLP and AECOM Inc, building on his earlier experience with BDP Limited and Hoare Lea & Partners. He is known for his collaborative working style and joint venture leadership successes.
Paul is currently Executive Chair at Carlton Limited, a buy-and-build holding company.
He is a former non-executive chair of RIBA Enterprises Limited, the world’s leading knowledge management business serving built-environment professionals, he is a Commissioner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. He is also a non-executive director at San UK Holdings Limited.
